At Coromandel it was pouring with rain so we decided not to cross back to the eastern coast but to return to Thames. We stopped for lunch in a layby with good views of the coast.

We saw trees growing in the sea water.

The sun came out as we set off again. We took the wrong turning in Thames and ended up at Kauaeranga Nature Reserve from where we could have walked to The Pinnacles which has a wonderful view. Unfortunately we did not have the time. We retraced our route back to Thames and then took the shortest route to our next campsite.
