Friday 25 September
We spent all morning skyping Helen and doing the blog between burst of testing fire alarms, so we saw nothing of Seattle. We had lunch in the hotel and were then off to the airport.
The check in girl persisted in trying to get our luggage as a through connection. We would rather have collected it in LA to be sure it arrived and was put on the next flight. This took some time and so we had very little waiting before boarding the flight. We had emergency exit seats so had plenty of room and superb views of Mount Ranier on take off and the Cascade Mountains once air borne. We flew over the huge Columbia River. We seemed to go past huge salt lakes. We flew over Reno and Lake Reno. We landed at LA.
Our 4th flight was with Air New Zealand on a Boeing 747-400 which seats 379 passengers. We were upstairs and it was very spacious with side lockers as well as overhead lockers.
LA looks good from the air at night - unlike in daytime. We headed straight out to sea. It was dark for the whole flight which was a little bumpy at times and there was a storm at one point. It was an excellent cabin and service, superior to Virgin which was good. We took off late Friday evening and because we crossed the date line we landed in Auskland at 6.05 Sunday morning local time. We were relieved to find our luggage on the carousel.
