On route we were told the history of Singapore and the history leading up to the second world war invasion by the Japanese. We passed Changi Prison but there is very little of the war time prison left as it is now used as a community prison and is being expanded.
We stopped for 45 mins at the Changi Museum. It was very interesting and enlightening looking at the photos and reading about the prisoners of war. It contained the remains of the original chapel walls and murals, restored by the original artist. In the courtyard is the Changi Chapel. This is a symbolic replica of the simple churches and chapels built by the internees. It was very simple and moving.
