Wednesday 18 November
We took the train into Perth and then the free city bus out to the Royal Perth Mint. The tour began with the history of gold mining which led to the mint being established. We then walked through rooms with gold in various shaped ingots, coins and medallions. The second largest nugget was also on display. There was an ingot, weighing 400 gr, which we could try to lift.
We also watched an ingot being poured. It took 45 mins to liquify the gold ready to pour and 20 seconds for it to set in the mould sufficiently to turn it out. It was then put into cold water and was cold in 3 mins.
