At Derwent Bridge we stopped at the Wall in the Wilderness. This was housed in a large building and was a 3 m high by 100 m long wooden sculpture of the history of timber harvesting through to hydro electricity in Tasmania. There were also some superb small wooden sculptures especially of gloves and a coat hanging on a hook. No cameras were allowed in the building and we declined buying a £13 book which was big and heavy.

At Tarraleah where the road crossed the River Nive there were two huge hydro electric power stations with enormous pipes leading to them and pylons carrying the electricity away. There were boards explaining the whole system which was fascinating. The same water was used by 8 different power stations before it reached Hobart where it went into a reservoir and used for drinking water. We also saw the feeder canals for the supply pipes.
