We took the M1 to Geelong. This is the equivalent of our motorways with a hard shoulder which said 'Emergency stopping lane only' but underneath (in the rural areas) a sign said 'Bicycles excepted' and we passed a cyclist! The land was flat and arid.

It took an hour to get to Geelong and then another 30 mins to get to Torquay which is on the south coast. However we didn't travel beside the ocean until Anglesea.

The coast here is spectacular with rocky areas and long sandy beaches with very few people on them.
