Once we were through the gorge the area opened out into wide pasture land surrounded by hills. We then went up out of the plateau and rejoined the river.

We turned towards Murchison. The Upper Buller Gorge road was very bendy and was again in a green corridor with few views. It was raining.

We went over the Buller River and turned for Christchurch.

We joined the Maruia River and stopped to look at the Maruia Falls. There was a lot of water tumbling over the rocks and a log whirlpool to one side.
