We went through Westport and over the River Buller and continued on up the coast to Granity and Hector where we stopped for lunch. It finally stopped raining.

We decided to carry on up the state highway which said it was a scenic drive. There were a lot of bends going up the mountain in a green corridor with no other views so we gave up and turned round.

We booked into the camp site at Carters Beach on the outskirts of Westport and then drove to the seal colony at Foulwind Point on Tauranga Bay. There were a lot of Kekeno NZ fur seals sleeping on the rocks and we spent a long time watching them.
